Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods is an ongoing project that surveys the distinct qualities of places within an ever transforming Urban landscape.
I am inspired to visit cities and towns rich with memories from my personal history. Through my Pentax 67 viewfinder, I find visual cues in the landscape that form a narrative. Struck by the formality of the built environment, I find elements of the past residing in an uncertain present.
The emptiness in the images references an absence of memories which hold place in my history. Some areas from my past are transitioning into characterless gentrification, trading culture for luxury and convenience. Others are subject to an absence of care, leading to neglect and disrepair.
The images in Neighborhoods offer the viewer a window into a displaced state that references a disappearing moment in time, as heritage and history are being stripped from the American landscape.
